This comprehensive course is designed to educate production crew members, executives, and key decision-makers on the critical aspects of working with firearms in film and television production within the UK and Ireland.
COURSE OVERVIEW AND TOPICS
Participants will gain a thorough understanding of:
UK and Irish firearms legislation as it applies to film and television, including licensing requirements, transportation laws, storage regulations, and legal classifications of firearms used on set.
On-set safety protocols to ensure the responsible and secure handling of firearms during rehearsals and filming, with an emphasis on risk assessment, pre-shoot planning, and live set procedures.
Responsibilities of producers and directors, including legal accountability, duty of care, and the importance of fostering a culture of safety on set.
The role of the armourer, detailing their responsibilities before, during, and after filming, including weapon inspection, maintenance, actor briefings, and coordination with other departments.
Emergency procedures and incident response protocols, covering best practices for dealing with accidents, misfires, or breaches of safety, and how to communicate effectively with emergency services, insurers, and regulatory bodies.
By the end of the course, participants will be better equipped to make informed decisions about the use of firearms in production, promote safety on set, and meet all legal and professional obligations.
